During the Yes For MAPS 3 campaign many promises were made to add fire and police emergency responders to the respective departments by use of the MAPS 3 Use Tax. Now that the votes have been counted and the issue has passed the true motives of Mayor Cornett and the Oklahoma City Council are able to be seen.

There was NEVER any mention made of emergency responders having to take a PAY CUT so that fire and police could be added.

Mayor Cornett Calls 12% Budget Cuts For Police A “Mythical Situation”

Channel 5 news reporter Mark Opgrande talks to Mayor Mick Cornett about the possibility of twelve percent budget cuts for police and fire departments.

During the interview Mayor Cornett explains that the twelve percent budget cuts are a “mythical situation”. Mayor Cornett talks about how the proposal allows the he and the city council members to review the priorities of each department.

12% Cuts To OCPD Are Described By Police Chief Bill Citty In This News Report

Despite the MAPS 3 issue being passed by the voters of Oklahoma City and the promises made in the MAPS 3 campaign, twelve percent budget cuts are now being discussed. This news report talks about what could happen to the Oklahoma City Police Department if the department is forced to make twelve percent budget cuts. Reporter Lisa Monahan talks with Oklahoma City Police Chief Bill Citty and Fraternal Order of Police President Gil Hensley.

Things get a little heated at a city council meeting. Councilman Skip Kelly takes issue with a resolution from Councilman Patrick Ryan & insists “I know what my responsibilities are”.

Oklahoma City Council Considers Contract To Pay Attorney $425 An Hour

While the City Of Oklahoma City struggles to deal with the economic challenges on balancing a budget the City considers a contract to pay additional attorneys anywhere from $225 to $425 an hour to negotiate with the Fraternal Order of Police and the International Association of Fire Fighters. City Manager Jim Couch says that the fees may cost tax payers as much as $90,000.

During the video Councilman Pete White says “I personally don’t feel like I made a commitment as a council member to do that.” Moments later Councilman Patrick Ryan says “The council never made that promise. The campaign made that promise. Let the campaign pay for it.”

This is one of the most recent commercials broadcast by the Yes For Maps Coalition. This coalition which is chaired by Oklahoma City Mayor Mick Cornett is now putting out this commercial which refers to the police and fire union members as “a small group of bullies”.

After being asked by several persons to post this video, here it is. After I cleared the vomit from my throat I was able to get this posted so that you can see for yourself how far they will go to get you to vote yes for MAPS 3. This should just make you more determined to vote NO on December 8 no matter what the weather conditions.

What happened to Mayor Cornett and his belief in President Ronald Reagan. Look under “Links & Documents” at the top of the page to see Mayor Cornett talk about how government is too big and spends too much. He also talks about wanting to REDUCE taxes. Golly gee Mayor Cornett, what happened to those ideas?

This is a link to an uncut version of the Yes For MAPS press conference that was held on November 12, 2009. The video features Oklahoma City Mayor Mick Cornett, Oklahoma City Councilman Gary Marrs and Oklahoma County District Attorney David Prater.

At one point Mayor Cornett says "I can assure you that if MAPS does not pass our public safety issues multiply." Cornett continues by saying "We have discussed ideas about how the accompanying MAPS use fee could be used not only to support existing capitol needs for public safety but also to actually increase the number of firefighters and police officers that we put on the streets and in these tough economic times the MAPS use tax could be used to help insure that public safety remains a top priority. We will not have that option if MAPS 3 does not pass."

District Attorney Prater then speaks. He talks about the City's significant gesture concerning the MAPS use tax monies. Immediately after this D.A. Prater says "It will assure us that through the rest of this fiscal year and next fiscal year we will see no cuts of police officers period. No matter what we experience in our sales tax revenue shortfalls."
